Springfield Walmart Neighborhood Market Approval in Time for Michelle Obama
Springfield, Missouri, will celebrate Walmart this Friday. With first lady Michelle Obama coming to town on Friday to a local Walmart to make the case Walmart sells healthy food, the Springfield city council approved a controversial Walmart Neighborhood Market on the corner of Campbell and Grand. Local opposition to the market had the council engaged in a PR battle for weeks about whether or not to zone the property for the fifth Walmart Neighborhood Market in Springfield. The puke brown grocery stores are taking over--five in a year.
No doubt the Springfield Mayor will walk alongside Michelle Obama on Friday with a celebratory Walmart attitude. Rather than promote local stores and business that create jobs, Michelle Obama chose to come to Springfield to promote Walmart, a company where Made in America is not the norm these days and more jobs are being sent to China to meet Walmart's promise of low prices.
Makes you wonder if the Mayor and the First Lady will dare bring up all the new (minimum wage) jobs coming to Springfield thanks to the Walmart Neighborhood Markets--jobs that are merely the transition of stores like the IGA that once stood across the street of a Walmart Neighborhood Market that is now closed from one old parking lot to the newer parking lot.
It will be comical if they do.
There is a reason Walmart has been picked by the Obama administration to promote health as Walmart expands its role in healthcare in the era of Obamacare...
