After Boehner's Purge of Conservatives, Missouri's Most Conservative Congressman Votes to Reseat Boehner as Speaker
Congressman Billy Long went to Washington claiming he was fed up of politics as usual in Washington. He promised to be a strong conservative presence in Washington. Once again today, I am reminded how Billy Long quickly became part of the moderate establishment upon landing in Washington, DC.
Long loves to claim he is the most conservative member of Congress from Missouri. Yet, after John Boehner purged conservatives from key leadership positions in the House while working with Obama to raise taxes, Billy Long didn't stand with conservatives who decided it was time for Boehner to go. Nope, Billy Long voted to reseat John Boehner as speaker even after weeks of Boehner giving in to Obama on key Republican issues.
Those who did vote against John Boehner as speaker include:
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), who voted for Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho). Rep. Steve Pearce (R-N.M.) and two freshmen, Reps. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) and Ted Yoho (R-Fla.), all voted for Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), but Cantor himself voted for Boehner.
Reps. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) voted for outgoing member Allen West (R-Fla.). Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) voted for former Comptroller General David Walker.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) voted for Amash, and Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.) voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
If Billy Long doesn't vote for a conservative speaker to lead the House, how can he still claim he is conservative? Of course if you look at Billy Long's big government voting record, calling Long conservative in the first place is a huge mistake.
