Stephen Colbert Favorite in South Carolina to Replace Jim DeMint

The people of South Carolina make be trying to upstage the people of Minnesota. It appears they want their own version of Al Franken in the United States Senate.

Stephen Colbert leads a list of possible successors to Republican Jim DeMint in South Carolina. (Hey, these are the same people that think sending Lindsey Graham to the Senate over and over again is a great idea.)

You can't really consider South Carolinians the smartest cookies in the union.

The Politico reports:

One-fifth of South Carolinians want late-night comedian Stephen Colbert to replace Jim DeMint in the Senate, according to a poll released Monday.

Twenty percent want Colbert, a South Carolina native, while 15 percent hope Haley selects Rep. Tim Scott, 14 percent hope she chooses Rep. Trey Gowdy and 11 percent want her to appoint Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former governor Mark Sanford.

Fortunately, it's not very likely Colbert will be the next junior Senator from South Carolina.
