Jo Ann Emerson's Farewell to Cost Taxpayers $1 Million

Jo Ann Emerson's quick departure from Congress just weeks after winning reelection to take another job will have a huge cost for Missouri tax payers. The moderate Emerson could have announced her retirement last year before the election, saving taxpayer dollars, but Emerson has a history of looking out for herself over her constituents.

News for St. Louis reports:

Weeks after winning re-election to a 10th term, the Cape Girardeau Republican announced earlier this month she is retiring from Congress in February to become president and CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

The Southeast Missourian reports taxpayers will likely pay about $1 million for the special election to replace Emerson. Missouri's 8th Congressional District makes up 30 counties in south-central and southeast Missouri.

Gee thanks, Jo Ann. I just love seeing my wealth confiscated through the income tax system while Washington's worst continues to carelessly spend it.
