Jim DeMint Agrees Republicans Will Raise Taxes and Not Cut Spending
I have said the writing is on the wall. Most of the Republicans in Congress appear to be be embracing Obama's call for tax increases to save us from the financial cliff, which if they were honest, they would probably tell you we have already gone over. The Republicans will compromise and get nothing in return of spending cuts. A tax increase will never save this country from debt doom as long as politicians don't stop their runaway spending.
Senator Jim DeMint has come out against his own party's movement towards favoring tax increases.
“Speaker Boehner’s $800 billion tax hike will destroy American jobs and allow politicians in Washington to spend even more, while not reducing our $16 trillion debt by a single penny,” DeMint said in a statement.
He continued, “[I]f neither party leadership is going to put forward a serious plan to balance the budget and pay down the debt, we should end this charade. We can stop the fiscal cliff with the bill that House Republicans already passed that simply extends the current tax rates and replaces the defense cuts with reductions in wasteful spending.”
Look this isn't hard to predict as Republicans don't want to cut a bloated military budget and seem to think getting involved in more wars while being incapable of resolving the wars they created that have come before while growing government like new Medicare entitlements and more federal control of education. It's just not hard to figure out that Republicans are going to buckle and get little in spending cuts in return.
