Fiscal Cliff?: Congress Begins Investigating NFL Over Human Growth Hormone

We are heading off the fiscal cliff! I'd argue we went over the cliff years ago, but none the less Washington keeps telling us these are dangerous times. Yet they still continue to drive towards the cliff (or perhaps towards the second cliff).

So where is the priority of members of Congress.

Congress is going to begin the next phase of its shame parade of professional sports stars in the coming days at it will investigate the NFL for human growth hormone use. Strangely enough, it's one of those Republicans often embraced by the Tea Party who is going to spend your tax dollars to find out how players in the NFL get so big.

The Press-Enterprise writes:


Inland Rep. Darrell Issa will hold a congressional hearing next week to examine the science behind Human Growth Hormone testing, and why its implementation in the National Football league has been delayed.

Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has scheduled the hearing for next Wednesday, Dec. 12. It will be webcast here .

Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus will headline a panel of witnesses that will also include anti-doping officials and health professionals. The hearing continues the Committee’s inquiry into the delay of testing that the NFL and its players association agreed to in a collective bargaining agreement.

The hearing will focus on whether the science is ready to support HGH testing, as well as health concerns HGH use poses for professional and young amateur athletes.
