Congressman Billy Long Silent on Boehner's Purge of Conservatives in House

Billy Long loves to brag he is Missouri's most conservative member in the House of Representatives. However, as John Boehner has begun his purge of conservative Republicans in the House, Long has been notably quiet. Long has been nowhere to be found when it comes to standing up in support of fellow conservatives who Boehner has targeted because they are sticking to their promise to their constituents they will not raise taxes.

Last week we learned conservative Republican legislators like Justin Amash were removed from their House leadership position because they will not back down from their conservative beliefs and support John Boehner's decision to work with Obama.

House Speaker John Boehner is working feverishly to find common ground with President Obama to avert to coming fiscal cliff, but the GOP leadership may have an even bigger problem after it stripped four conservative lawmakers of key committee positions for not toeing the party line.

Now one lawmaker tells WND the targets of that decision are all fiscal conservatives who voted against rampant federal spending.

The decisions reportedly came from a Republican steering committee tasked with making committee assignments. The panel stripped Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., and Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., from the House Budget Committee.  Rep. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., and Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., were given the boot from the House Financial Services Committee. Their specific transgressions aren’t clear, but all four members voted against the 2011 deal to raise the debt ceiling, and three of them voted against the House GOP budget authored by Paul Ryan because they didn’t think it brought the nation’s finances into balance quickly enough.


What's interesting is Congressman Billy Long claimed he was fed up with Washington's spending, and yet he hasn't be cast out of the favor of John Boehner. Nor has Billy Long stood up for his fellow conservatives cast out of Boehner's kingdom despite claiming to be Missouri's most conservative representative. Does this mean Billy Long is ready to tow the line and support Obama and Boehner's plans to raise taxes?

One would think the Fed Up Congressman who claimed he was "fed up" of the way Washington works would be reminding Southwest Missouri voters he is still "fed up". Yet not a peep of solidarity with the fiscal conservatives removed from their leadership positions. What's a matter Billy? Fed up doesn't include John Boehner?

Long loves to tell the story about how he stood up to Boehner during the HR1 debate, which Republicans were supposed to deliver $100 billion in spending upon getting to Washington two years ago. Long says he walked out of the room expressing his anger towards Boehner at his inability to make these spending cuts. According to his Joplin Tea Party speech Long said he walked out of the room angry. A few speeches later he was bragging, we got'r done. Of course only $30 billion in cuts were passed as Long voted to support federal funding of NASCAR teams.

Long has been invited to this Sunday's Eric Farris show on KRZK to discuss how he feels about Boehner's purge of conservative Republicans from leadership position. At this time, Long has not responded to the interview request.

So the question is does Billy Long have the courage to stand with his fellow conservatives or will he once again embrace the Republican establishment preparing to bargain with Obama to deliver tax increases?

I predict Billy Long will go along with the establishment, where he can stay fat and happy, and break his Grover Norquist pledge of no tax increases.
