BBCW: Wacky Liberal of the Year 2012 #10: Lucas Case

Lucas Case had a coming out party this year. This was no surprise to many who figured out he was a gay Republican. Case was embraced by the Republican establishment never having problems seeming to find employment by Republican candidates from Jack Goodman to Sarah Steelman, and he was often front and center in these campaigns if you observed Republican politics in Missouri.

Yet, Case had an axe to grind. He announced he was gay to a St. Louis media claiming he was the homosexual version of Rosa Parks. Of course we know Case never had the courage of Parks and was only out there to make a name for himself. He claimed he was forced to ride in the back of the campaign vehicle because he was gay; although, he was often seen standing next to US Senate candidate Steelman during the primary season with his "friends" nearby, which could be observed at a Memorial Day event in Springfield.

Case must have felt his path in life was forcing other gay Republicans out of the closet. Now playing a victim was the first reason Case made the list. As the year went on and Case returned to Missouri after heading out to California to play with the boys, Case began endorsing liberal Democrats in his social media effort like Claire McCaskill. Despite claiming he was still a Republican, Case also began embracing numerous liberal issues, mot recently Case called for restrictions on the Second Amendment.

There's something very American about the right to privacy. Apparently, Case doesn't think so. While I have yet to hear of any accusation from Case about who is gay in the Missouri Republican party, Case threatened to out those people, an invasion of privacy, to advance his new political agenda.

Case has earned his position as one of the Wacky Liberals of the Year.
