Apple CEO Timothy Cook Says Americans Lack Skills

Made in China...

Apple products like their Mac books are made in the same factory as Windows computers like HP by Chinese. iPhones are made by Chinese. There appears to be a reason for this that goes beyond cheap labor, and it's one I have been warning about.

In a recent interview on NBC, Apple CEO Timothy Cook says they would love to produce more Apple products in the United States, but there is a huge issue Apple faces. American workers are losing their skills.

I can't help but think this is the focus of this myth in America that you must go to college. Colleges of course teach theory and rarely teach skills.Throughout this blog, you will see where I believe children should be encouraged more to go to trade schools over the more traditional college route.

There is this belief in America these days is instilled in children that they are too good to get their hands dirty. Americans grow up to believe they are too good for a Mike Rowe type of job where they come home dirty, sweaty, and nasty. This wasn't the case when I was a kid. When I was 16, I waded in the mud drilling water wells and pulling heavy drill steel out of the ground.

I think Cook makes a valid point. When you look at our society, our society looks to outsource so much from the simplest of computer graphics (to someone in India) and so much more. Americans are losing skills, and if they want to be competitive in the job market, they are going to have to get their hands dirty and relearn these skills across the board (especially in agriculture as well where family farms are dying for the very same reasons).

I think Cook's statement is more justification for more trade schools and less college.
