Willard School Official Throws Student's Lunch in the Trash
Here's more proof idiots run our school systems. In Willard, Missouri, who I am sure participates in the federally subsidized school lunch program (meaning your taxes are helping make lunch affordable), Candi Altic's 14-year-old son had his lunch taken away from him and thrown in the garbage by school official (you know someone who is supposed to be teaching your child values) after his mom forgot to give him lunch money.
The student's lunch credits had reached a zero balance. That's when one school official took his tray off the table and threw it away. I'm not kidding you.
"And then she's like, 'I'm going to need to take your tray.' And I'm like, 'Why?' and she says, 'Because you don't have any money,'" said Collin Altic, a freshman.
At Willard High School in Missouri, students are no longer allowed to charge their lunches. So after being forced to be at school all day for their indoctrination provided by the Department of Education, they won't be fed if God forbid, they forget their lunch money. Good grief!
Willard School adminisrators said they enacted a new, tougher school lunch policy this year at the high school. They said high schoolers will not be allowed to make any charges on their accounts.
"Ultimately when you're talking 4,000 kids. It totaled up to a large number," said Willard School District Superintendent Kent Medlin.
Medlin said at one point last year the district had lost more than $20,000 in school lunch charges. School leaders set out not only to keep that from happening again but also to figure out reasons behind the charging.
Hey Mr. Medlin, let me tell you about all the money I have had confiscated from me through taxation to keep your racket running there in Willard! You surely accept this confiscation of wealth to help pay for school lunches don't you?
Schools are supposed to be environments for learning. I don't see how throwing a kid's lunch in the trash because they forgot their lunch money is creating an environment for better learning considering hunger is a learning distraction.
Perhaps a solution to this Mr. Medlin is to let kids charge their lunches, and when they don't payback their lunches, they aren't allowed to play in sports. Since sports has become the priority in most of these schools, this would probably lead to a higher rate of charges being paid off.

There's other options out there than too let our kids go without food. Many go without breakfast so when lunch comes up they are very hungry. Over draft fee is another example. Already all fines, fees, and negitive lunch balances must be paid in full at the end of school year. We send food and money too other countries that go without but at Willard we punish our kids with hunger.

The school's argument makes sense but their action does not. Who paid for the food that was thrown in the trash? So, if their argument is that they have previously lost 20k, how much will they lose from food costs? I would like to see representation that that 20k was from unpaid lunches. They generally make you pay balances at least at the end of the school year. Giving adequate notice to these students is a good idea, or check their account balance before they receive their tray. Wasting that food is just unacceptable. Where some say they are learning responsibility, they are also learning that it's okay to throw an entire meal away. This was enforced in a thoughtless way. I can't believe all of the people below Mr. Superintendent couldn't have brought this point to light. At least at the end of this year when they have lost more money on lunches there will be only one person to blame, and this time he won't be able to push it off on those 4000 kids.
