The Republicans Move to the Left on Gay Marriage: GOP Platform for 2012

Let me be the first state that your lifestyle is your business. What happens in your bedroom should stay in your bedroom. Our society is being over regulated by minorities who want to the legislate their lifestyles into the mainstream, and it now appears the Republican party is ready to further this advancement. Log Cabin Republicans will soon be shaping the national platform and gay marriage will be considered as part of the GOP.

You know my stand on this. Marriage is nothing more than a tax in the eyes of the federal government--a tax on a religious institution since the ideas of marriage come from the Bible and other religious doctrine. It is clearly defined as between a man and a woman. As states find themselves in a financial pickle, gay marriage has become another source of revenue for states that spend to much and can't tax enough.

The Blaze Reports:

R. Clarke Cooper, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans, said Tuesday a team from his organization will be credentialed to attend the platform committee meeting, which will take place the week of Aug. 20 in Tampa, Fla., prior to the start of the convention.

“Just looking at the 2008 document, Log Cabin has gone through and we’ve noted language in there that’s either directly unhelpful, or seen as anti-gay, and have marked it for deletion,” Cooper said. “We’ve also found language that could be strengthened to be more inclusive. That said, there’s going to be a completely new document. It’s not as if they’re taking the ’08 document and just updating it.”

Cooper said the group has already identified language in the 2008 platform that it will push to remove in the 2012 document, including language related to marriage. Under the heading “Preserving Traditional Marriage,” the 2008 platform endorses the Federal Marriage Amendment and affirms passing same-sex marriage bans through state initiatives.

Either way, the federal government has no Constitutional authority to define marriage. This is something the Republicans don't understand and is a state's rights issue. However, the Republican party will sell traditions, the Constitution, and conservatives out for votes, as we see the start of the GOP pushing gay marriage at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

  1. Boy Bill, on this we agree! And again just another reason a new president in November will not make any difference in the direction our country is going in.
