Billy Long: His Embryonic effort in American Foreign Affairs
Let us be frank, Billy Long is a pure dilettante when it comes to anything in the foreign affairs arena. Everyone must start somewhere in the learning curve, but when it comes to deciding the law and policy of foreign trade, Mr. Long needs to be a back bencher and stay there, if not relieve himself of this burden for the sake of his office and his ego. Additionally his 'Fed Up' with Washington D.C. was a great campaign slogan but when the rubber met the road, Congressman Long failed us. Voting for 2 TRILLION in additional debt should be enough to poison his future as a Conservative Congressman, not to mention his votes for the detainment of Americans without trial. I could continue but you get the picture.
Billy Long's position to support the President in a trade agreement with Russia shows his ignorance as well as his lack of understanding history. We had been enemies with them for 45+ years, and when the battle of Moscow happened during the civil war when Boris Yeltson was at the helm, an American Marine at the Embassy in Moscow was snipped and struck in the neck. He survived and I was fortunate to meet him while I was working with the State Department. They are not our 'friends'. The fact that we depend on the Russian for transportation to our portion of the space station should push our Congressman to vote for self reliance on our own ability to get to Space vs trade agreement.(Jack Kennedy is rolling in his grave)
The facts are that Russia is supplying Iran with plutonium, Russia, is supporting Syria, by sending ships in support from their Black Sea fleet. Syria is to Russia, what Israel is to America, those are hardly the actions of a 'Business Partner'.
So Congressman Long believes, based on his support of the Presidents ideas concerning trade with our former nemesis, That it's important to support a country that supports tyrannical behavior in Syria, vs. an ally that is the only country in the Middle East that has freedom of religion as well as other that are held dear to all Americans hearts.
With Egypt and Syria allies, and Russia helping out it's old friend Syria, the Middle East, from this narrow perspective, is hardly a reason to reward Russia more access to our markets. With the US Dollar weak and others strong, Russia, among others are buying up thousands of tons of our beef and pork, to mention a few, that send our prices into orbit.
Should we be giving them additional help?
I say "Нет, спасибо. Я буду делать бизнес в другом месте."
(No thank you. I'll do business elsewhere.)
