Dick Morris Pushes the Idea Ron Paul is the Most Liberal Candidate, and Perhaps He is Right (But Not for the Reasons He Gives)
Our founding fathers were classical liberals. The idea of people ruling themselves without kings and producing the freest society was for its time quite liberal thinking. Back then being liberal meant something totally different.
Throughout his terms in Congress, Ron Paul has walked the walk of our founding fathers testing each vote to the Constitution authority provided to him.
As the Republican establishment, who made huge promises to follow the Constitution, attacks the Iowa frontrunner, It appears Dick Morris delivers the next set of talking points all designed to make Mitt Romney--the establishment's choice--the nominee come next fall. To do this, the GOP is having to place every label on Ron Paul as they can in order to destroy him.
Last night on Fox News, Dick Morris opened his yapper trying to attach the "l" word to Ron Paul.
Describing Paul as “the most liberal, radical left-wing person to run for president in the United States in the last 50 years,” Morris added, “This guy is no conservative. This guy is a ultra, ultra left-wing radical.”
“I think it’s horrible!” Morris exclaimed. “Nobody else wants to dismantle the military, including Obama, but he does. Even Obama doesn’t want to repeal the Patriot Act but he does! Even Obama doesn’t say that we caused 9/11 and brought it on ourselves. But Ron Paul does. Even Obama doesn’t want to legalize heroin and cocaine, but Ron Paul does.”
So here is Dick Morris spreading lies and pushing for less freedom. The Patriot Act obviously has led to federal thugs feeling up grandma at the airport--a total violation of the Fourth Amendment. Ron Paul's support of the Fourth Amendment is the very reason he opposes the Patriot Act.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Also notice how Dick Morris misrepresents Dr. Paul's views on drugs. He doesn't want to legalize drugs like heroine and cocaine. Paul points out the federal government's war on drug is a drain on taxpayers costing billions and producing no results. Paul's view on this is the Constitution gives the federal government no right to fight a drug war and it definitely doesn't give the federal government power to pass drug laws based on the 10th Amendment.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
I remind you both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew marijuana. Yes, it's true.
Then there is this idea Ron Paul is going to dismantle the military. These words can only come from neocons like Morris--who are well taken care of by the vast military industrial complex. Our Constitution states our military is for a "common defense." Neocons like Morris believe in the new American imperialism, while Dr. Paul has the intelligence to see the fall of every imperial society from Rome to England has fallen because of the costs to maintain the empire. In case you haven't noticed Dick, the United States is $15 trillion plus in debt. Ron Paul is the only fiscal conservative with a plan to cut federal spending $1 trillion, something the Republican party doesn't seem to want to do.
And so if the Republican establishment using their pundits like Dick Morris think they are going to destroy Ron Paul by slapping the "l" word on Ron Paul, I declare to my fellow Tea Party members, Ron Paul is a liberal in the very best sense of the word--following classical liberals like Thomas Jefferson--who actually stood for little "r" republicanism--something the Republican party forgot decades ago.
