Congressman Billy Long Opens the Door for More Frivolous Law Suits and More National Debt
Congressman Billy Long is going to start talking tough against frivolous law suits. In fact, he already has, issuing a press release last Friday that he is sponsoring a bill to end would limit frivolous transportation lawsuits. Of course Long's voting record on frivolous law suits is an open invitation for scam artists and their class action attorneys to rob billions from the federal tax payer. In other words, Billy Long isn't tough at all when it comes to frivolous law suits.
In case you haven't heard, Billy Long voted to fund $1.25 billion in the Pigford frivolous law suit against the USDA. The Washington Examiner describes the law suit from those claiming to be black farmers discriminated by the USDA as "race hustlers are shaking down taxpayers for payoffs, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is falling for the scam.”
In a letter to a constituent from Ozark named Greg Cable, Long was unapologetic over the use of your tax dollars to fund the frivolous law suit.
“I voted against this amendment, along with several other Republicans, because stopping payments could increase the risk for additional litigation. I firmly believe I must take every step I can to curb costly litigation, which hurts businesses and job creation in this country. I also believe I must take every step to slow out-of-control government spending at every turn.“
Quite weak when you think of Long's explanation because giving in to scam artists playing the race card will create a situation where more scam artists playing the race card will find other ways the threaten the government with class action law suits. Each dime paid out in these frivolous cases adds to more debt that we as taxpayers will pay.
I am reminded at what Billy Long promised the voters of Southwest Missouri last year as he ran in the Republican primary:
He said he was fed up with people bankrupting this country. When time came to fight it, Billy Long proved he wasn't very fed up at all.
