Homeland Security Text Message Warnings Mean More Federal Cell Phone Subsidies
![]() |
| She's getting ready to update to the federally subsidized iPhone. Celebrate good times come on! |
Can't you hear the complaints from a liberal or two in the coming weeks. Homeless people and the poor won't be able to receive the same warnings other Americans receive and this isn't fair. They are going to propose legislation to do something about it. The legislation will assuredly expand federal subsidies for cell phones for the poor and homeless, which in case you didn't know it, the federal government is paying the cell phone bills of hundreds of thousands of less fortunate Americans.
It might be Jesse Jackson Jr. complaining about the lack of fairness as he pushes for iPhones for the poor. Or it could be another liberal pushing this plan, but you know it's coming. It's not far away. We will be guilted once again by the fact that most Americans go to work to pay their cell phone bills, and some people just aren't that fortunate. The government will have to buy more cell phones--more sophisticated cell phones that go beyond just making basic calls. They are going to have to smart phones that allow these people to receive these new warnings.
This is how a good intention government program, which it really isn't since it's main goal is to promote fear to get you to buy into the need of more government at airports, train stations, sporting events, and even the mall, begins to grow into something much larger that ends up costing taxpayers billions and billions more than originally planned.

Business likes big government because it provides a safety net, in taxpayer bailouts, when bad investment decisions result in financial insolvency. Additionally, government acts in distributing wealth upward through tax schemes, protectionist measures and subsidies. The idea that conservatives want less government is a joke; they want a robust government to support them. Free market theory is nothing other than a fraud to shield the public from the economic realities in an effort to present “markets” as neutral, detached from the political, and to disempower people from involvement in investment and production decisions that affect their lives and communities.
