Congressman Billy Long Looks to His Dashboard Bozo the Clown for Inspiration
Billy Long attended the Joplin Tea Party. At the Tea Party, Long claimed he had been having lots of success helping people in Washington. I don't think he is talking constituents here, especially when you consider his first bill he sponsors is to acknowledge National Auctioneers Day after receiving $5000 from the National Association of Auctioneers PAC. I am not too sure how many people that is helping in the Ozarks.
Here's an excerpt from his speech at the Joplin Tea Party, where Long explains to the crowd why he keeps Bozo the Clown on his dashboard of his black F-150.
We’re just having a lot of good success helping people. But it is the House of Representatives. Never forget that. It is the House of Representatives.
I’ve got a Bozo on the front of my truck—a lot of people say how come you got Bozo on the dash?—that’s to remind me—and I’ve had it on there for years—that’s to remind me not to take myself too seriously. I’m doing your work in D.C., and I was standing right down there last year with ya and I’ll be back down there in a minute…
Does doing your work in DC include trampling the First Amendment and making false claims about your political enemies to the FBI in hopes of silencing them? The real crime is that John Putnam and the Joplin Tea Party let this abuser of federal power speak at their Tea Party in the first place. This is what the Joplin Tea Party deserves, a speech about Bozo the Clown from someone who doesn't even have the intelligence to inspire with the message of the Founding Fathers.
Thanks Mr. Long for spreading your Tea Party message of Bozo the Clown and not James Madison or Thomas Jefferson. Do you even know who those two men are? Here's an idea for you Mr. Long, why don't you try looking to the Founding Fathers for inspiration if you are looking for a little humility. They understood how men like you are likely to abuse the power you are given.
By the way, Duane Graham is a liberal, and we don't see eye to eye. I have enjoyed getting to know Duane Graham, and he has an interesting piece about his encounter with Long at the Joplin Tea Party yesterday. Graham is the Joplin blogger that recorded a nervous Billy Long denying he bribed another blogger with a campaign job to remove an anti-Long site from the Internet. We all know that eventually led Long to intimidating the blogger with the FBI.
