Kagan Confirmation Hearings Start Today

Elena Kagan's Supreme Court confirmation hearings start in the Senate today. Republicans say a filibuster is possible while Democrats say the opposition is having trouble coming up with an argument. Republicans have said they plan on focusing on her "liberal" activism.

Well I have a better argument against Ms. Kagan. Despite shady views of the military, Kagan has very little experience in court. I'm not a lawyer or judge, and I'm not claiming to be one. But, it's pretty obvious to me that when we nominate a judge for the highest court in the land, we need to pick someone that is experienced.

We also need to choose someone that has a history of constitutional knowledge and patriotism. When Elena Kagan speaks this evening after the first day of the hearing, it will be the first time she has spoken publicly since the May 10 announcement. We know very little about her past, except for one college thesis written. In that thesis, Kagan writes, "The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism's decline, still wish to change America. Yet if 'the history of Local New York shows anything, it is·that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope."

So despite realizing socialism has failed, she still believes in a socialist government?
