Billy Long Disrespects American Veterans With Campaign Efforts at Memorial Day Event at the Springfield National Cemetery

Some of the most precious land in Springfield is located on the Southwest corner of Glenstone and Seminole. It's where thousands of Missouri veterans are laid to rest--some of old age and others gone too soon--a life given to our country.

I know the cemetery well. Along the North wall rests my grandfather who died in 1979. He was one of the first American boys to fight in Germany--not by orders but by accident. They dropped his platoon in the wrong location and they soon found out they were in Germany learning to survive without the support of the United States Army. In the early days of World War II, my grandfather received a purple heart when a bullet skimmed across his forehead--two inches forward, and I probably wouldn't be telling you this today.

It wasn't all that bad. His platoon found a deserted German brewery, which still had beer inside. They managed to stay drunk as the Army finally figured out their mistake.

I don't know too much more about my grandfather's war stories from the big one in 1941. I was too young, and from what I was told, he didn't talk much about it.

I feel a huge disrespect tonight as a reader who attended the Memorial Day event at the Springfield National Cemetery told me of the disrespect Billy Long and his campaign had for our fallen soldiers. Billy Long couldn't let go of the campaign just for a day. He showed up with his campaign staff, who were Billy Long for Congress t-shirts, and they proceeded to pass out Billy Long for Congress stickers to those who came to honor American veterans today. As if the Drew Brees charity event didn't prove enough embarrassment for Billy Long as Springfield began to realize Long's lack of etiquette, turning a Memorial Day event into a campaign effort shows how little class Billy Long has. I think I have said enough.
