A Man, His Dog, and a Large 7' Inflatable Earth Leaving Hermann, Missouri
I have been looking online for clues to a strange site I saw yesterday. After many curvy miles in the Missouri, River valley on highway 94, I made a right turn on highway 19 and was greeted by a man with his little dog on a leash in his left hand while his right hand rolled a large, inflatable earth along the shoulder of the road. He looked like an explorer dressed in probably what were organic khakis, a backpack, and an explorers hat.
He had just crossed the Senator Christopher Bond bridge over the mighty Missouri and looked like he had been traveling for quite some time--possibly a globe trotter. I have little doubt he is a liberal environmentalist raising awareness. I will do my best not to insult him, because I am fascinated by these Forest Gump moments in life that cause a man to cross the globe while rolling a large globe.
If anyone has any knowledge of who this man is and what his purpose is in with rolling a globe please let me know. I think it might be appropriate if his little dog was named Kerouac.

I saw this dude today! I was searching the net myself to see if I could find anything about him, but all I could find was your posting. I saw him on highway 50...between Tipton and Sedalia. I wanted to turn around and get a picture of the dude and talk with him just out of curiosity, but my fiance wouldn't turn the car around.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little intrigued by the dude with the large rolling globe!
I just saw him in New Orleans LA,... Guy, dog, and globe... Hwy 90, right outside the westbank area...
DeleteThanks Ashley. I hope others help us track where he goes and what his mission is. I know the day I saw him, the skies opened up with a nasty downpour.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how he rolls that thing down a mountain with a greater than 12% grade.
I do wish he had a Web site or something. You would think there would be a news story or something.
I saw him in St. Peters, Mo (St. Louis suburb) on the 3rd by the highway and the 4th a little further in town. Then today (the 21st) I just saw him on Highway 50 just east of Warrensburg, Mo.
ReplyDeleteSaw this guy in St. Peters, Mo twice over the 4th of July weekend. Then to my suprise, I just saw him about an hour ago on hwy 50 just outside Warrensburg.
ReplyDeleteIt is now 5:05 pm. and this man, his dog, and his world are about 9 miles from Pittsville, MO. on hwy 50. Glad to see there are others tracking him.

ReplyDeletei saw him week on July 30th, 2010 in White mountains, NH. cool guy.
ReplyDeleteWhile on vacation we spotted him rolling the globe, followed by a man walking the dog, on Aug. 6 in the central part of Maine. My boys and I have made up a car game where we each name the strangest thing we've seen during a 15 min. time period. We all wished we'd been playing at the time we saw him!
ReplyDeleteHi guys my name is Jesina and I live in Delray Beach, FL and I saw "The man with the Globe" today walking down Federal Hwy! He started his journey in Ft. Lauderdale and was moving North. Him his trusty dog and his Glode. He is a very nice man i stopped and talked to him, His fight to promote Diabetes is Awesome! Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get peoples attention and to get the word out about things! I praise him for his valiant efforts, It got me listening!
ReplyDeleteit's cruel to force a dog to run that much! the dog looked tired and thirsty. i wish people would consider how much smaller a dog is, when they take them on long treks like that! he should have left the dog out of it!
ReplyDeleteThe dog is probably in better shape than you. Considering how many miles that dog has gone. That dog is much happier than a dog that spends all its life attached to a chain.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this gentleman today walking on the road with the large globe ball and his dog..this was on highway 371 south towards St. cloud, Minnesota
ReplyDeleteAugust 25, 2011

ReplyDeleteWe saw him walking north of Yankton, SD (wind was at his back) on Highway 81 and stopped to talk - he was very gracious and answered all our questions (I'm sure he hears the same ones over and over.) His dog, by the way, was the sweetest thing ever and was obvious well loved and cared for - to spend every day walking with your owner is dog heaven. Good luck Erik - what a neat thing you are doing!

ReplyDeleteHe was north of Pawnee City on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. About 8:00 AM, he was about a mile north of Pawnee City. By 5:00 PM, he was only about 5 miles north of Pawnee City. I don't know what he's doing. It appears he was headed south, but then went back north when he reached P.C. Given all the spottings around the country, do you suppose there is more than one guy with his dog and globe?
