Hi-Point 9mm Carbine and C9HC 9mm Handgun: Lot's of Bang for the Buck (No Pun Intended)

Last month, I decided to look at a local gun show for a new handgun. I didn't want to spend a lot. In fact, I decided to see what I could get without stooping and purchasing a Jamenez J-9, which is a very dangerous handgun. (Stay Away!) I did a little research before going and realized I had many options. I decided on the the Hi-Point C-9--cost, $149.00.
The Hi-Point C-9 comes with a plastic pistol case, trigger lock, key and siting tool, ghost site, and an eight round magazine. It's a nice package.
I passed the background check, paid my money, and took it to the range. I found the sites easy to use and quickly adjusted them to discover the gun is accurate. One of the issues one reviewer claimed is that it frequently jams during the break-in period of about 100 rounds. After that, the reviewer said he had no problems. I have fired 100 rounds, and I have never had a jam.
The best thing about Hi-Point is the lifetime warranty. Everyone who reviews the Hi-Point line of rifles and guns said they do a great job of standing behind their products. I have nothing bad to say about them. In fact, I was so impressed with my C-9 purchase that I bought the 9mm carbine a couple of weeks later.
Many people claim the rifle is ugly, but I really like it. It reminds me of my M-16 I carried at Fort Knox, but it's not as forgiving to your shoulder since there isn't a recoil spring. I too quickly sited the rifle and found it to be accurate. I showed it to a friend of mine recently, and he immediately bought the last one in the store. They are getting harder to find, so if you come across one and have $179, get it. You won't find a funner rifle for the money. What's really interesting is that I paid almost the same amount of money for my two Hi-Point 9mm guns as I paid for my Beretta U22 Neos. Although, I have no complaints with the Beretta, I have a lot more fun with my two Hi-Points.

Got on in .40 Love it. Buddy of mine has one in 9mm and one in .380 as well as a carbine in 9mm. Uncle just bought two in .40. A cousin bought a 9mm pistol and a 9mm carbine.
ReplyDeleteThey are great guns.
Looking for a .45-70 and a .357 now. I would like to get a .30-30 as well.
Other guns: .22-250, (2)30.06s. FEG .40 compact. Hi Point .40. 12 ga 870, 20 ga 870. few other shotguns and other stuff.
a片有分無碼和有碼的a片。
ReplyDeleteI'm still a Beretta woman.
ReplyDeleteI got the Hi Point .38 a few months ago and it's a nice little American made piece I carry in the car @ $99 the price is right.
ReplyDeleteI smoked off about a 1000 rounds on it and it held up nice so far except the slide/shuttle is very stiff even after about 500 shots, kinda aggravating.
0Then you have the Apple Owner syndrome or "Mr Firearms" forum trolls who wil give the "Hi Point Sucks this and that blah blah" bullspit which to them I say "they all fire the same lead"....
I also went American with a Ruger 9mm I bought a few months ago as well and like that one too,.
I have no beef with Hi-Point,but would not use one for self-defense or carry. If it just for some range fun, sure they are great deal to some plink with.
ReplyDeleteBe safe and keep in the ten ring.
Ray, have you had much luck finding ammo for your 38. I hear its almost impossible to find these days. I mean there are issues with finding ammo fear nearly every gun out there. Even 22 rounds are flying off the shelves, but 38 is a real issue from what I hear.
ReplyDeleteSlide is always going to be stiff on a Hi Point. It is part of the design for the feed and eject.
ReplyDeleteDo not know why people would say they would not use one for self defense. Mine is very accurate. They are about as non-complicated as a semi-auto pistol can be. No fancy stuff.
People just cannot believe that something so value oriented can be a good product.
American manufacuring at its' finest I say.
i have had great experience with my 9mm carbine and my buddys 9mm pistol.
ReplyDeletehi point makes a great product.
i have personally put about 1,5oo rounds through the carbine with not a one issue and seen about 350 rounds on the pistol. no issues yet.
good gun.
This gun sucks!! they jam and misfeed 24/7....
ReplyDeleteWho shoots their weapons 24/7? I have had one jam and have shot both of these weapons frequently over the past three months.
ReplyDeleteI think you may suffer from gun snobbery. You might want to get that checked out.
These guns suck. there ugly they misfeed, they jam , they break and that about all that Hi-Point can make there products do.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I notice the owners of these firearms are willing to put their identity to the fact these are worthy firearms and the people who don't have anything good to say aren't backing up their comments with their names.
ReplyDeleteI bought a .45 handgun from Hi Point. It jammed once in the first hundred rounds. It is very accurate, and a great value. I used to be Army infantry, and all my Army buddies fired it this weekend and they all liked it. I am going to buy a carbine in two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI recently picked up a used 995 Carbine. Its a fun little gun but it does have some mag issues. If the feed lips arent just right i get nose up FTF. I just got 2 new mags that seem to have solved the problem. And Hi point warrenty is great they offerd to give the gun a look over and fix/replace any worn parts being I picked it up used.
ReplyDeleteim getting my c9 on tuesday, any recomendations on break in? like bringing a cleaning kit the first time i shoot it. hit it after a few rounds and then continue. and on my 10 rd magazine for my 995 ihad to snip a little spring out to get it to take 10 comfortably. looking forward to shooting this pistol.
ReplyDeleteIve got the 9mm (C9). I have been very pleased with it considering the 150.00 price tag. The one problem I've had is that the first two rounds do not feed properly when the magazine is fully loaded. But if I only put 6 rounds (in an 8rd mag) or 8 (in a 10 rd mag) then they feed fine. I've heard of others via online forums having similar problems. I haven't contacted HP yet, but I hear they have great cust serv.
ReplyDeleteA friend has this 9mm carbine and loves it. I'm thinking of buying one too. I think they're ugly, but ATI has a stock that is more asthetically pleasing.
i have had a 995 carbine for about a year now and use it almost every weekend not a single jam or misfeed since i have had it. i did however have an issue with the magazine catch but i shipped the stock back to them and they sent me a brand new one with extra parts. i am very happy with High Point and i am waiting to buy the .40 cal version and just ordered a stock from ati.great customer service and great gun.
ReplyDeletei have a .380 hi point . i really like the gun , it is very accurate , but all guns eventually weill jam . i'm almost through the breaking point . i did fire 100 rounds through it , and it jammed like twice.
ReplyDeletestay away from hollow points , and re loads. and have had no problems using the hotter rounds of 115 grains , compared to 95 grains
ive owned a 995 two years the only problem ive ever had is the mag tips as mentioned before theyve got to be just right its fairly acurate at 40 yards with a 3x9x40 scope i also equiped mine with a laser and light by adding a barrel mount picany rail with three rails im going to buy a pair of 9mm c9s for my wife and i later this week i can attest to the reliabilaty of my 995 yes they are not the best looking gun around but the price is right and hey lifetime waranty if it breaks they fix it free and send you extra mags for your trouble you cant beat that with a big stick
ReplyDeletei had a problems with the magazines, but i am going to get more magazines and hopefully they work good. Gun is great though
ReplyDeletebot the hi point 380 love it great gun fairly accurate.for a guy whos a bad shot any ways ive put 300 rounds threw mine not one problem.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy both the C9 and Carbine. Great inexpensive shooters. Goes bang accurately each time I pull the trigger. No fears to those who would buy one.
ReplyDeleteI consider myself as close to an expert in firearms as anyone, grew up hunting and then several years more experience in Army. I can't recall not ever owning a few. I have had everything from cheap cobra derringers to weatherby mark v 300 deluxe rifle and with every type of ak, m16,shotgun, rifle in between. Most of my scopes actually cost more than the c-9. Is the hi point 9mm as well made or reliable as say the old S&W 4506? No it isn't but neither is any glock on the market. Is the c-9 as accurate as a 1911? Nope, but what is? I owned a c-9 and it jammed twice in about the 500 rounds I owned it. Neither time was I the shooter, both times it could have been a combination of things, perhaps the mag wasn't truly locked in, which is a common operator error or perhaps the person limp wristed it. It is a simple blow back design pistol, making it both ugly and affordable. I never used hollow points in it so I can't comment about the feed of HP from mag to ramp in this design. It wasn't my choice of a self defense weapon so I had no reason to test it. I will say with win 9mm FMJ it functioned just fine. Just a reminder to the ballistics experts, many people died in WW2 from the 9mm FMJ and they are still just as deadly today. I give the C-9 a thumbs up. Would I trade my Kimber for one? Nah, but the c-9 reliably went bang when I pulled the trigger and it always hit the target area from 25 yards which is good for any 9mm. I had purchased it pretty darn cheap at a local gun show at the end of the day just because I didn't feel right leaving without something and I was later on fairly impressed with it.
